Methacholine Challenge Testing
Methacholine Challenge Testing is a specialized lung function test used to help diagnose asthma. During the test, you inhale increasing doses of methacholine—a substance that can cause airway narrowing in people with asthma. After each dose, your breathing is measured using a spirometer to assess how your lungs respond.
If your airways react and your lung function drops, it may indicate airway hyperresponsiveness, a key feature of asthma. The test is safe, controlled, and monitored closely by trained respiratory therapists. The test results are sent to our team of Respirologists who will analyze and interpret the results. From there we send the results back to your family physician/referring physician.
Pulmonary Function Testing
Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) is a group of non-invasive breathing tests that measure how well your lungs are working. These tests assess lung volume, capacity, flow rates, and gas exchange to help diagnose and monitor conditions like asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, and other respiratory disorders.
By breathing into specialized equipment, we can evaluate how much air you can inhale and exhale, and how eciently your lungs deliver oxygen to your body.
PFTs are safe, quick, and performed under the supervision of trained respiratory therapists to ensure accurate, reliable results.
These tests are sent to our team of respirologists for interpretation. The interpreted results are then faxed to your primary care physician.
Arterial Blood Gas Testing
Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) Testing is a blood test that measures the levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in your blood, as well as the blood’s pH (acidity). It helps assess how well your lungs are delivering oxygen to your body and removing carbon dioxide. ABG testing is commonly used to evaluate lung diseases, respiratory failure, and metabolic conditions. A small sample of blood is taken from an artery—usually in the wrist—and analyzed to provide critical information about your respiratory and metabolic health. The test is quick and performed by Registered Respiratory Therapists to ensure accuracy and safety.
